Handcrafted birding & nature tours across the American Tropics
Conservation
Birding that gives something back:
Birding takes us to extraordinary places—forests, wetlands, mountains, coastlines, and communities whose future depends on long-term care and protection.
At Flyway Birding Tours, conservation is not treated as an extra feature of a trip. It is part of how we choose partners, build itineraries, and decide where tourism can have a positive impact.
Our goal is simple: create excellent birding experiences while helping direct tourism value toward the people and places that protect the birds we travel to see.
Conservation Partnerships
We work with birding, conservation, and ornithological organizations to create custom tours that bring together exceptional field experiences, strong local partnerships, and tangible support for conservation.
Each program is developed collaboratively. Flyway Birding Tours designs the itinerary, manages logistics, and coordinates trusted local guides, lodges, reserves, and service providers, while the partner organization brings its community, mission, and conservation priorities into the experience.
Depending on the program, a portion of the tour proceeds may support the partner organization, local conservation initiatives, or both.
The result is a travel model that creates value beyond the tour itself—connecting participants with the places they visit while helping sustain the organizations and projects working to protect them.
We have developed and operated programs of this kind in collaboration with organizations including:
-
Western Field Ornithologists
-
Sierra Club Outings
-
Maryland Ornithological Society
-
Northwest Nevada Bird Alliance
-
Golden Gate Bird Alliance
-
Palomar Audubon Society
-
DC Bird Alliance
-
Los Angeles Birders

Western Field Ornithologists Conservation Partnership Tour
Local Impact: Our itineraries prioritize local guides, privately protected areas, research stations, community projects, and locally owned businesses whenever possible—helping keep more tourism value within the destinations we visit.
Responsible Travel: Small groups, careful planning, experienced local partners, and respect for wildlife and habitat are central to how we operate.
