Who we are:
Flyway Birding Tours grew out of Crescentia Expeditions, founded in 2010 by Costa Rican naturalist Mario Córdoba Hidalgo. Mario began guiding in 1992 at the foothills of Arenal Volcano and studied Ecotourism at the Instituto Tecnológico de Costa Rica.
Together with operations manager Yessenia Herrera we spent fifteen years crafting educational, natural-history, and birding itineraries that drew on deep partnerships with local businesses, small lodges, and community projects.

Today, under the refreshed banner of Flyway Birding Tours, the same team brings that hard-won expertise to a broader canvas: multi-day birding journeys in Costa Rica, Ecuador, Colombia, Panama, and Guatemala.
The new name signals our expanded reach along the migratory flyways of the Americas and a heightened commitment to channel every journey’s success into community-led conservation. What has not changed is our small-group ethos, inclusive teaching style, and personal attention to every birder—whether you are returning from past Crescentia adventures or stepping into your very first tour with us.
